President's Message: New Members are Business Leaders Who Want to Learn and Grow with You.
Once again, proving that small business people can do just about anything, Opportunity Knocks is on track to meet its goal of 100 new net members this year.  The work by Eric Meade – membership director, Shannon Basset – membership committee chair, Steve Curley – marketing committee chair, Brian Shawver – board liaison and many others has really paid off.  ÂÂ
By the end of the year, Opportunity Knocks will be promoting small business excellence among more businesses than ever before.  The membership growth plus normal attrition means that 150+ business leaders need to find a home on a team of peers.
The best place for a new member is with a well-established team.  Long-time members and facilitators have the capacity to quickly accept and incorporate new members.  New members benefit from their knowledge and experience.
Existing teams benefit from new blood too.  New members bring fresh ideas, experience and vantage points to a team.  There are times when Opportunity Knocks forms a team from all new members, but these teams have a much higher attrition rate while they try to get settled. ÂÂ
Adding new members to existing teams provides stability and benefits for all.
If your team is asked to accept new members, please be generous and welcoming.  We know that teams function best when there are 10- to 12 members per team. If your team is below 10 members we encourage you to actively seek new members.
These new members are business leaders who want to learn and grow with you.  They need your help and can offer much in return.  You will be providing the best possible experience for them plus helping to grow our local economy.
