Board and Committee Members Step Up to Fill the Need
Overall, things are going well at Opportunity Knocks. With our reduced staff, board and committee members have stepped up to fill teams, train facilitators and organize events.
As we move forward we know that there will be surprises along the way. Transitions can be a bit bumpy especially when everyone has many other commitments. We will be smoothing out these bumps during first half of 2012. After we stabilize our processes and budget, attention will be focused on helping the teams be as successful as possible.
In March, the board and facilitators met to discuss current events and what’s in store for Opportunity Knocks.
Eric Meade, Opportunity Knocks’ new membership director, has visited with most of the teams and is assessing where we need new faces and who fits where.
The membership committee and Eric have been busy spreading the word about how Opportunity Knocks can help businesses grow and excel. But we need members wearing their recruiter hats as well. You have experienced first hand how beneficial Opportunity Knocks has been to your business. You make the best recruiters. So please, let your colleagues know about your experience with Opportunity Knocks.
Shannon Bassett reported that the facilitator committee is making progress in setting up an efficient process for assigning new members to the most appropriate team.
Terryl Wash is handling administrative functions including paying the bills, closing the books and responding to inquiries. She is available during business hours to answer questions.
The events committee, headed by Bill Scannell, plans to hold two best practice events this year in conjunction with other community organizations. These joint efforts will result in increased attendance and higher quality events. The events committee also plans to hold a summer social and fall membership meeting.
Jason Moyer reported on behalf of the administration committee that Opportunity Knocks took steps over the last year to stabilize our budget. The budget never had much fat and that’s certainly true this year.
